Two obituary notices recount Aaron C Brantner born 1849 Indiana died 1933 in North Salem at 83 with extensive family then laid to rest at North Salem cemetery. Also Cecil Reed born 1889 St Joseph Missouri moved to Milan began work at 13, married Nellie Ogelsby in 1921, a printer by trade, funeral at Oakwood cemetery in Milan.

Mrs Edmund Browning Juda Browning born September 17 1846 near Linneus Missouri died February 8 1933 aged 86 years four months and twenty two days She married Edmund Browning February 19 1871 and had seven children She is survived by her husband four children Walter one daughter and two sons preceded her In death She joined the Missionary Baptist church near Milan later transferring to Locust Valley She was the last of nine siblings and her sister died twenty years ago Her family mourns her passing with prayers for reunion in heaven

President Mrs. Norman McDonnald opened the meeting with a program on Club Manners and readings by Ileene Boyles and Mrs. Leroy Elam. The report of Treasurer was read by the Secretary and Mrs. Otho Almond spoke. The next meeting will be an all day session hosted by Mrs. Alex Finney. The group closed with the Lord’s Prayer. C. R.

Teachers examination for Linn county teachers takes place at the Brookfield high school on Friday and Saturday March 3 and 4. Conducted by County Commissioner J. F. Horenstine, the event aims to assess local educators and credential candidates.

President elect Franklin D Roosevelt narrowly escaped an assassination in Miami on a Wednesday evening. Joe Zangara of New York fired at Roosevelt from a Bay Front Park reception crowd injuring Chicago Mayor Antoin Cermak and four others while Roosevelt was in a car. The victims were hospitalized and the assailant overpowered.

J M Hollon of this city marked his eightieth birthday on February 17 with a planned surprise party by his children and grandchildren. Relatives arrived with baskets for a noon repast, guests included E M Neely and families, J W Jacobs, J G Nickell and families, and numerous others. The afternoon featured socializing and well wishes for many more happy returns.
