All Day Meeting at Hoselton Club in January

The G. P. club held an all-day meeting at Mrs. A. D. Hoselton’s home on January 24. Members and guests enjoyed quilting, a Delic ious dinner, and a business session led by Mrs. Palmer. By-laws were read, Article XIII adopted, and fourteen members attended. Next gathering planned with Mrs. Pars Brassfield on February 14 including a Lincoln or Valentine roll call.

Live Wire Sunday School Group Meets At Calhoun Home

The Live Wire Sunday school class met at Mrs. Roy Calhoun’s home on Monday night February 11 with seventeen present. After a brief business session the boys gave a grand program. Attendees included Rev. Stitch And Chatter Club Meeting Report

Stitch And Chatter Club members and six visitors met with Alma Browning on January 31st to piece a fan quilt applique a sunbonnet baby quilt and hook a rug. A noon dinner followed. No business meeting due to low attendance. Birthdays celebrated with presents from mystery sisters Alpha Alice and Allie. Next meeting planned with Allie Ware as many members families face measles exposure. Members praised for dedication despite distance and travel.

Wallace Shouse of near Linn Center, on his 160 acre farm east of Lin neus, is recognized as the champion red fox trapper in the region after trapping fifteen red foxes this season. He also reports success with wolf trapping using his noted trap placement technique.

Mr and Mrs R W Caldwell of Kansas City have accepted positions at the Farmers Store. He is a registered pharmacist and she a sales associate with years of experience. They reside with Mrs Jennie Epperson and are welcomed to the city hoping they settle here permanently.

Trumbo Seeks Nomination for Township Trustee

H. R. Trumbo of Reger requests placement of his name before Democratic voters for the township trustee nomination. Ray is a successful Reger merchant with wide business experience and would oversee township finances capably. Although never in office, his broad acquaintance in the township makes him a strong candidate. He seeks support at the coming convention.

Browning Considers Forming A Town Band This Year

Browning may form a live town band to boost the community and provide affordable entertainment. Last band in 1926 drew strong outdoor crowds. Edward Williams, a student, directed on vacation. Local musicians include Ben Carter, Calhouns, Mrs. Glaze, Duckworth, Luton, Bolling, Ruth, Williams, Dr. Duncan, Harvey, Becker, Prather, Peters, Bond, Phillips, Adams, and others. Lambert of route 3 and Mrs Lizzie Stinson of Brookfield won a surprise marriage after securing a license. The bride, well known near Milan, resides in Brookfield since Mr Stinson’s death. The groom, a lifelong farmer and skilled craftsman, hosted a large charivari. The couple’s wedding crowds and festivities followed with cigars and candy as neighbors celebrated into the night.

John Neely and Evelyn Gable wed after traveling to Trenton for a marriage license. The couple, joined by Jacob Harris Allen Swisegood and Misses Iloe and Dorothy Raider, return home to receive friends' congratulations. Evelyn, daughter of Grover and Mrs Gable, is a high school graduate and popular. Neely, son of E M Neely, is also a former student with wide friend ties. The couple reside at the Neely home and receive visits from well-wishers.

Large turnout at Linn County corn hog sign up meeting

The County Allotment Committee and County Agent Hall reported 1278 farmers attended last week sign up meetings. A total of 713 signed for 1935 contracts, about double the prior year. New features include better corn payments, farm wide yield basis, no contracted acres, no crop restrictions, and removal of feeder hog purchase limits.

The American Legion sponsors a Missouri high school champion ship oratorical contest on the Constitution with prizes of 100 75 50 and 25. Browning Purdin and Shelby students compete at Brookfield High Friday February 15 with county district zone and state finals in Jefferson City around May 15.

Ice coating covers ground forcing street walking

The section was visited by rain on Thursday and by Friday morning an ice coat covered the earth. Unprotected surfaces iced over while sidewalks in the business district were patched with cinders. Pedestrians used the streets to travel as several people fell. Cars cleared pathways making paths easier to walk. It was a good day to stay indoors by a fire.

Hog Market Booms for O T Johnson with 120 Hogs

O T Johnson trucked 120 hogs to St Louis on Sunday averaging 250 pounds each and selling at 8.25 dollars per hundredweight. He expressed satisfaction with the price and praised the quality of his hogs as fancy to fetch the amount.
