Last Wednesday evening a bound passenger train hitting Homer Sidewell left him seriously injured while he slept on the track near the A. L. Martin crossing south of Milan. His brother Joe was knocked unconscious and both brothers received aid in Milan before transfer to nearby towns for treatment.
Mes G Nickell of Cora announces his candidacy for sheriff of Sullivan County. Born and raised in Duncan Township he has spent most of his life there aside from a year in Oklahoma. A farmer by trade, he has worked as a section hand at Corn and served as township committeeman for his party.

Washington D C February 8 1982 government announces loan terms for farmers funded by Congress under the Reconstruction Act. American Legion Commander Andrew T. Havens chaired a special Feb 3 meeting of Claude H. Myers Post No. 274 Rothville to elect a new Adjutant after Luther W. Rice’s departure. Ches ter L. McCormick won the post, Charles W. Gooch became Vice Commander, and a welfare committee plus assistant service officer were named. A post-meeting feed at Gem Coffee Shop followed.
The Happy-Go-Lucky Club gathered with Mrs Loren Vincent last Thursday for an all day meeting. Members brought covered dishes and enjoyed a large meal prepared by the hostess. Quilt making continued after dinner and 14 members recited Bible verses. Isabel Gooch presided with Lucy Cumbo as secretary and children entertained with songs and readings. The group planned to meet next with Mrs Carl Brassfield on February 17.

Gov Caulfield names Ed Lawrence to fill the unexpired term of recorder of deeds in Sullivan county following the death of Mrs Iva n Lawrence. Lawrence, a Republican committee chairman, is praised by friends across the county and expected to be a capable recorder.
A Milan area farmer Roy Coffman aged 47 killed his wife 44 and then himself around seven last Wednesday. Their son Ogie age at home witnessed the events and called authorities. Sheriff Hoover Prosecuting Attorney Walker Deputy Berry and Judge Cleeton investigated. burial followed at Bairdstown.

Mrs Mary Melton of Browning Missouri dies at home January 31 1932 aged 82 after a long life in Calloway County and Browning. She married Preston Melton in 1889 and he died in 1916 leaving one son and three foster children. Funeral at Methodist church February 3 led by Rev S B Leek with interment at Jenkins cemetery.

A caravan of 30 to 40 Linn County stockmen will visit the St. Joseph Market on Tuesday Feb 16 invited by the St. Joseph Stock Yards Company. Luncheon, inspection of yards and packing house, and a guided tour by S T Simpson are planned. The Marceline High School Vocational Agriculture class will accompany the group.
