Ronnie Myres Steele born May 21 1928 died December 17 1935 at seven years six months twenty eight days. Son of Herbert and Mayme Steele of Cora Missouri. Funeral Thursday at Zion church. Rev Hobbs conducted the services. Family and community extend sympathy.
A rambling diary recalls a rough week with gossip about a sale notice, a drafty editor, a dance floor flirtation, a 50th wedding anniversary, a banker and a New York hotel theft, a proposal inquiry, a housekeeper’s daughter spanked for skipping church.
Mr and Mrs W B Austin moved Saturday to their new home in Chillicothe where Will is locating for the practice of his trade. He has years of experience as a tensorial arists both as operator and instructor.
The departure is marked by wishes for success in the new home. The church Sunday school and business fraternity of the city praise the individual as a good citizen who stood for the community’s best.
The 11th Clover Conference will be held in Linneus on Wednesday January 22 in the Court Room. The program includes a full farm agenda with new features on soil erosion lime legumes and livestock profitability.
Farm Bureau reports rapid bot control across Linn County with veterinarians treating large horse groups. Wm Pendergast cites December 6 work by Dr F A Wolfe in Jackson Township near Haseville where 90 head were treated in one day. Farmers urged to organize 20 or more animals and contact a Bot Leader to arrange a same day service.
County Agent Hall grants pencils to the top 4 H Club record book entries where 80 percent of members completed their books. Mr and Mrs H C Bailey entertained Ride A Wee Sewing Club members and husbands with a bridge dinner on Wednesday evening December 18 decorations included two Christmas trees and a lit red candle centerpiece. Prizes noted high scores went to Mr and Mrs K M Duncan with consolation prizes to Mrs C L Whaley and C W Gooch.
Mr and Mrs John Longwell moved this week to the J W Head farm on route 3 which they have rented. They previously lived on the Crook Shanks farm for many years and have many warm friends in that neighborhood. Mr Longwell is a good farmer and will take good care of the new farm.
Sunday December 22 at the hospitable home of E W Nickell a family reunion of Mr Nickell’s children and grandchildren was held. A noon dinner satisfied all and the afternoon featured pleasant conversation as guests departed for their homes. Present were Mrs Bertie Holden and others from Seattle Milan Winigan Green City Browning Champaign and the local city.

W B Austin thanks friends for patronage during his Browning stay and wishes a happy new year. In Chillico he invites visitors to his shop in the First National Bank building at the southwest corner of the square.

Ralph Reinhard attended with about two hundred tractor salesmen in Quincy. Dealers were invited to gain salesmanship points and view a farm load of forty three tractors delivered to distribute in the territory. Reinhard called the meeting very interesting and noted it as the first train load of tractors ever brought into Quincy.
J. J. Smith, Collector, announces tax collection at Citizens Savings Bank on Thursday December 26 and Saturday December 28 and next week, and at Bank of Purdin on Friday December 27.
Jay Christy and Dorothy Linhart surprised friends by securing a marriage license in Linneus and marrying at the Methodist church with Rev. Simmons. The couple was joined by Cecil Dust and Elizabeth Alexander, and will reside with Mrs. Christy. The Leader Record offers congratulations.
Lloyd Lambert offers to remove dead animals suitable for hog feed and will pay $1.00 per head for horses and cows with payment on other animals in proportion.
Mrs May Neely returns to New York after visiting her son in Chula and granddaughter in Jefferson City. She met in the city Saturday and left Monday for Kansas City to spend Christmas with relatives before returning home to Bayside Long Island. She plans to visit again next year.
Here from Alabama Miss Orvyl Adams a Birmingham schoolteacher visits her parents Mr and Mrs Guy Adams. She has taught there for several years showing her skill as an educator but she is glad to return home for Christmas.
The G. P. Club met November 22 with nine members and two visitors to enjoy quilt block work and a covered dish luncheon. Officers elected included President Sara Brassfield and Treasurer Pearl Thurlo. On December 12 Ruth Lantz hosted with seventeen members and three visitors. a covered dish luncheon followed.
A social club gathering concluded with a quilt making session and a lively contest. Members departed after a late homer and plan to meet again for a Christmas event hosted by Minnie Palmer.
Ruby N Helms and Floyd E Yochim were wed on December 18 1935 in Linneus Missouri. They were joined by family and later hosted by the bride’s and groom’s families for celebrations amid traditional charivari welcomes from large crowds.
The Most Faithful FE. C. Bailey renewed for the home paper and for his sisters Mrs. Jessie Brassfield of Siletz Oregon Mrs. T. Wheeler of Roseburg Oregon and Mrs. I. M. McDermod of Pendleton Oregon. He follows his father H. C. Bailey who kept the paper going to his daughters for many years.
Scottsville residents gathered at the Scottsville school for a large meeting highlighting community industry and progress. They noted cooperation with the Works Progress Administration on an all weather road from State Highway No. 6 at Reger to the town center. Officers elected for 1936 include President Mrs P A Brassfield secretary Mrs A G Thurlo reporter Mrs W E Duckworth song leader Mrs F E Hoselton and child leader Mrs Maurice Lantz. The group also sponsors a 4 H baby beef calf club led by Glenny Freeland with R A Thurlo as assistant leader, naming members Eugene Thurlo Max Freeland Dwayne Crowdis Nyles Freeland Dwayne Fields Chas Langdon Eugene Brassfield and Junior Crowdis. Two social gatherings monthly at the school are planned along with serving cats at meetings. Guests Prof R H Emberson and Emergency County Agent Rollx A Baugher attended.
The town placed an Xmar tree in the square near the former band stand drawing many visitors. It is illuminated with multicolored lights and regarded as beautiful, aligning with the yuletide spirit. Mr. Geo. Christy donated the tree.
