J E Fitzpatric of Parsons Kansas and Miss Effie Lantz were married in Kansas City on Monday December 4. Fitzpatric, a railroad yards foreman, is esteemed by friends in this community. Miss Lantz, daughter of G W and Mrs Lantz, grew up nearby and has lived in Kansas City. The couple left for their Parsons home after the ceremony.
A December 6 box supper hosted by S. P. Carr and Jenkins school patrons drew a large crowd. John Vincent won the ciphering match, Darr sold boxes, Miss Iva Hague won fancy stationery, and Prof. Darr was crowned ugliest man. Receipts totaled 29.65 dollars for school benefits.
Friday night Dave Jennings and his children, living east of Cora near Cross Roads, attended a meeting in Cora. On return, their house was fully engulfed by fire. only items from a smoke house survived. The stove was nearly out when they left, and the house and contents were consumed.
Last Sunday Rev. Creason united in marriage Arthur Pipes and Miss Ethyl Maxey in a small church ceremony. The couple plans a future reception with family.
Miss Ethyl daughter of Mr and Mrs Worth Maxey and Arthur son of Mr and Mrs Web Pipes are described as well known and industrious. The couple begins a life with a brilliant prospect and many friends wish them a long and happy life.
A reader notes a printer mix up in a Missouri monthly, printing a wedding notice and public sale in alternating fashion. The story describes William Smith marrying Lucy Andrson at a farm near here with 80 guests, listing livestock, tools, and gifts, plus a 12 month extended trip and cash luncheon.
William Garrett, a longtime county resident, was found dead Monday afternoon at his home along Cache Creek. The report notes Garrett’s status as an elder figure in the community and records no further details at this time.
The Woodland California Democrat reports the death of a 66 year old resident, Mr. Garrett, found dead in his yard near the Yolo bridge after a day of wood hauling. A jury ruled death from natural causes. Funeral plans not announced. His wife and several children survive. Earlier a near miss fire threatened his residence on Cache creek, saved by C. W. Hatcher and others. Mr. Garrett, once of Linn County, left Missouri in 1863.
W L Bond of the Farmers Store promotes a big sale on ready-made clothing cloaks overcoats and ladies wraps offering a twenty percent reduction. The sale runs through December 23 and invites readers to visit during the discount period.
Uncle George Taylor returned from an extended visit with relatives in the west. He started from California on December 6 and was pleased with the trip. He met many former Linn county people and has many stories to tell friends about the west.
Morrison Pritchett of Webb City state instructor for the I O O F led a lodge of instructions in this city Friday and Saturday nights. Weather hindered country members from attending but his talks energized the lodge and prompted renewed activity with two candidates on the way. Several members from neighboring lodges attended.
At the 1911 Intercollegiate Stock Judging Contest in Chicago, the Missouri team led American colleges by 175 points. H. F. Williams had the highest individual score, with Missouri strong in cattle and top finishes in other categories. Seven US colleges and three Canadian colleges competed.
Browning farmers bring in turkeys for the holiday as roads remain muddy from heavy weekend rain. Teams needed to haul birds, with wagon wheels clogged so thick by mud spokes were obscured. price details follow in local market notes.
