Milan Republican editor C. F. Eubanks dies at 76

C. F. Eubanks probate judge and Milan Republican publisher died Sunday August 13 in Milan after a prolonged illness following influenza. Born February 23, 1868 near Mexico Missouri he moved to Sullivan County in 1869 and served as judge from 1903 to 1914 then again from 1942 until illness. Survived by wife two daughters son five grandchildren and two brothers funeral at Milan Methodist Church with Oakwood Cemetery burial and I O O F graveside rites.

Mrs Nancy McCollum Gunter dies in Woodriver Illinois

Nancy McCollum Gunter born May 30 1861 near North Salem Missouri died July 17 1944 at daughter Mrs G C Farmer home in Woodriver Illinois. Survived by three sons Orville L James F of Springfield Missouri Charles F of Paragould Arkansas two daughters Mrs Mattie Farmer Woodriver and Mrs Mary Chapman Granite City thirteen grandchildren one great granddaughter three sisters and one brother. She joined Methodist Church at North Salem 1875 later moved membership Mount Comfort Church until death.

Letters From Soldiers In The Armed For ges

In a letter dated August 1 1944 from New Guinea J W writes home about life overseas. He recalls a stage program with Jack Benny Lanny Ross and a Negro orchestra, reunites with a schoolmate Billy Sheen, and describes swimming on the beach and family news including Faye in Florida. He asks about fishing town crowds school start and teachers and closes with love to all.

Letter to Roach family from Glenmond Roadh 1944

A wartime letter from a son to Mr and Mrs Roach dated August 6 1944. He thanks them for a birthday card and verse asks about home crops prices and farming, mentions Donald possibly not being sent overseas and hopes to visit the States. He notes Mr Hooker illness and praises the Martins who offer to buy a big farm if he agrees.

Rolland Carlyle Bennett promoted from First Lieutenant to Captain at Headquarters India China Wing Air Transport Command. Son of Mr and Mrs Lafe Bennett of moted. Bennett has served since April 25 1941 as an operations officer in the China Burma India Theater since July 23 1942. The unit runs the air supply route to China from northern India bases to battlefronts.
