Jane and the Gransberry Family Tale
A narrator recalls Jane, the eldest daughter who bears the brunt of work in a large Gransberry family after their mother dies. He compares Jane’s steadiness to a Burdon sister who failed to get help, revealing how others lean on her and she may be misunderstood as dull. The summer encounter ends with Jane ill and resting at the Whitefield farm.
