Survived by wife Sarah E Nickell two marriages produced six children fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral at M E Church South April 15 with burial at Hoover cemetery followed by later service and interment at Plain View cemetery.

At a regular Friday meeting the Board of Education retained Lafe Bennett as building custodian for the coming year. Salary adjustments for the superintendent and teachers were approved, and the tax rate was reduced. Vacancies remain in the high school English vocal and the primary department.

A Sunday outing on April 17 drew about thirty five people to North Salem for a spring picnic. They built a fire at the bridge, cooked eggs in a large kettle, and shared a meal described as fit for a king. After eating, participants split into teams for bare base and black man, with some players either too old or unable to continue.

Miss Virginia Burwell closes a successful term at Oak Grove School District near Purdin. A dinner and program followed by prizes awarded by Mrs. Kenley marked the day. Successful Term of School Close at White Oak Grove
On April 15 1938 Lloyd Schoon closed a successful term of school at White Oak Grove. Patrons arrived with baskets as a rainy day did not dampen a hearty meal. The program started at 1 30 pm and grade cards were given to all pupils. Three pupils attended daily Vonna Head Jay Nickell and Lyle Jacobs received fifty cents each. Three graduates were Vivia Almond Jay Nickell and Vonna Head.
