A column on motherhood sacrifice and child rearing contrasts self denial with harm, urges cheerful living rooms with books and art, and recalls a touching scene of a child at a deceased father’s casket. It argues Sunday rest aids vigor and critiques pampered girls as future wives and mothers.
A severe wind storm hit Linn and Macon counties on Saturday evening. In Bucklin six inches of rain fell in minutes before a tornado demolished the railroad station and telegraph lines. Banks churches mills and hotels were damaged with losses over 12000 though no fatalities occurred.
The quarterly conference met at the M E church with many attending the business session Rev Harper of Unionville officiated in place of district superintendent Rev Chas E Petree of Kirksville who could not attend He delivered a strong sermon to a large Thursday night audience.
The Freshman class hosted a well attended evening at Mrs. Mollie Crawley’s home with red and white decor. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Martin and Mrs. Mollie Crawley. Mr. Martin, Miss Ocel Neely, Miss Mary F. Davis and Mrs. Hermin Adams won honors in contests.

The senior class put on a school charity play at the opera house Saturday night. The crowd filled the hall and praised the performance naming it perhaps the best show of the winter season.
Notice states the Farmers Exchange Bank shareholders will meet at the Browning banking house on Wednesday May 15 1912 to elect a board of directors for the ensuing year and to transact any other business. J A Calhoun secretary.
