Christian Lambert son of Mr and Mrs Jake Lambert born in Virginia in 1853. He moved with his parents to Missouri at age 21 and married E Knnfong on February 2 1880, with children born to the union. He is preceded in death by his wife and family.
A longtime Knifong resident died on April 4 after a year of declining health. Funeral services were led by Rev. W C Rice in Knifong Grove, with many relatives and friends in attendance. He united with the Methodist church in 1916 and was remembered as a dutiful husband father and neighbor. Burial followed in the nearby cemetery awaiting resurrection morn. The widow and children deserve public sympathy in their hour of grief.
At a March 26 public sale by J. C. Sayers the Haseville Red Cross raised 125 dollars from donated articles. Col. J. B. Fleming led a patriotic talk and numerous men pledged to pay one dollar a month for the war duration, including Ben Wood and Jimmie Collins among many others.
Andrew Jennings born in 1836 in Montgomery county Missouri moved later to Sullivan county Missouri. He was married twice producing several children including Mrs. Charley Richmond Mrs. John Ford and Mrs. Carl Huffman Claud Jennings. Funeral services were held at White Oak Grove church conducted by M Burwell with burial nearby. He was brother to D W Jennings and sister to Mrs Jane Mills.
Miss Nancy Wooten and Ray Bennett wed Sunday morning around 10 o clock at the home of Dr and Mrs J A Mairs in this city. Rev Patton of the M E C South officiated in the quiet ceremony attended by a few relatives. The bride is described as beautiful, accomplished, and highly regarded, having lived with the Mairs for seven years. The groom is identified as a suitable match.
A young farmer, son of Sage Bennett, and his bride depart with Willie Bond and Miss Frances Harrington for Excelsior Springs and Kansas City. They will return by week’s end and host friends at the farm west of town. The Leader-Record offers heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for a long, happy journey together.
Third Liberty Loan committees of Linn county met at Brookfield in the DeGraw theatre at 1 30 in response to county chairman Hon E M Lomax call. Lomax outlined the loan aims and the county's share of three billion dollars as speakers urged readiness. Word reached Alva Oklahoma of the death of Prof P Bruce on April 2 1918 after a long illness. He served as school principal and superintendent in Wood County for years and faced a nervous breakdown early this year before dying. Mrs Bruce and their daughter bear the community’s sympathy in this surprising loss.
Otto Johnson nearly lost his Hupmobile Friday morning while traveling toward Milan in the Duncan bottom. The top was down and the rear portion of the car became detached during the mishap.
