Bill Lacy Becomes New Owner of Gibbs Meat Market

Brownfield native Bill Lacy has purchased Gibbs Meat Market at 717 West Main. The store will be renamed Hill's Meat Market, offering USDA graded beef, freezer beef, individual cuts, fresh barbecue daily, and a full line of groceries. The Lacys, at 924 South Seventh Street with four children, will run the shop six days a week 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Terry County Voters Endorse Herbicide Law Move

County commissioners in regular session placed Terry County under the Herbicide Law after a public hearing. They approved a $25,000 loan and a $4,000 loan for funds, transferred $1,000 to the Jury Fund, and authorized tax roll preparation payment. Officials to attend the Attorney General’s conference were set, and Terry County’s road surplus was discussed for lateral road work.

Half-Million Swine Feeding Plant Opens in Terry County

Construction begins on Brownfield Swine Producers Inc a 500000 dollar venture in Terry County to employ up to 12 men and raise 12000 pigs annually. The SPF operation will use cross bred Duroc Hampshire Yorkshire hogs with planned expansion to 600 sows and a future feed mill.

Jones Appointed To Legislative Council

Speaker Gus Mutscher announced Representative Delwin Jones of Lubbock will join the Texas Legislative Council. Jones, in his third term from District 761, chairs the Agriculture Committee and serves on Labor, School Districts, and Youth panels. He brings leadership and experience to the permanent staff that conducts studies, drafts bills, and supports interim committees.

Harvest Festival Queen Candidates Hit Dallas Area Tour

Red Coats of Terry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture promote the October 4 Harvest Festival. Eight candidates for Harvest Festival Queen travel with organizers visiting Sundown Levelland Smyer Wolfforth and other towns with stops in Lamesa Tahoka O’Donnell and Lubbock. The festival opens with a 10 am parade and the queen will be crowned by 1968 queen Ann Garrett on Saturday night.
