As senior players threaten a strike, high school and college teams move into week two with eight more games ahead while pros may trim their season after two games. Fan backlash grows as ticket prices rise to cover player demands and owners plan to rebuild rosters, leaving supporters wary of shorter seasons.
The 32nd annual Terry County Farm Tour runs Thursday starting at 9 a.m. from First Baptist Church. Stops include irrigation talk at Texas Tech Waters Laboratory and herbicide use on CR land with experts Dr. Daniel Krieg Dr. John Abernathy and Dr. Wayne Keeling. A Coke break will host three farming award announcements and the tour concludes with a catered noon lunch at Coleman Park.
AMVETS will bring up to date veteran information to Brownfield residents and their dependents. The nonprofit offers free help from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Terry County Courthouse with a National Service Officer on site.
Meadow residents protest as state highway crews move U.S. 62 82 northbound lane 18 feet east, shrinking a 10 foot shoulder into Ray Gober’s front yard. Gober, who moved here in 1958, will lose seven trees and may spend years and thousands to relocate them while 42 trees are slated for removal between Brownfield and the Hockley county line.
Terry County commissioners plan a Monday morning meeting to decide a budget transfer of about 2000 to the child welfare fund and whether to amend the 1987 budget to cover several emerging needs. They may allocate roughly 26000 for items including a library computer monitor, K-9 unit budget, and civil defense building air conditioner with Meadow volunteer fire department funding also under consideration.
Mark and Tim Gomez spent June 23 to August 23 in Saragosa aiding teenagers and children after the tornadoes. Through the Rio Grande Conference Methodist internship they organized games and dances, counseled residents, and helped rebuild hope despite initial hostility and shared regional strain. Town leaders invited a return next summer as relief workers aided Balmo rhea Toyahvale and Brogado communities.
