Brownfield lineman electrocuted repairing line

F. E. Buddy Jackson 30 of 119 North 13th Jackson was killed instantly at 11 15 a m when he touched a 2400 volt line while repairing it on Tohoka Road about a mile and a half from town. He had worked for the city power plant since 1947 and is survived by his wife Verna two sons Russell Farr 12 and Rodney Lynn 8 a daughter Patricia Louise 10 his parents Mr and Mrs W F Jackson and his sister Miss Pete Jackson. Funeral arrangements were pending today.

Devonian flow at Terry County well exceeds four hundred barrels

The No 1 Pool in Six miles southwest of Gomez, Terry County, flowed 425 barrels of 45.7 gravity oil in 14 hours through a one inch choke after perforations at 12 763 to 12 798 feet. Prior tests showed 49 barrels of lead oil and 202 barrels of new oil in eight hours.

Local Brownfield BCD talks dropped by chamber leaders

Noon decision by Brownfield Chamber of Commerce advisory board and board of directors ends discussion of a Brownfield City Development plan. Walter G. Wright of San Angelo and H. E. Hightower spoke against a BCD joining others in attendance including J Hoy and J L Kemper. Wright has long career with AT&T and General Telephone and serves on several local boards. Wright is married with two daughters, Margaret Kent and Mary Wright.

Arrests Crack Burglary Gang In Brownfield Area

Police and sheriff’s office in Brownfield netted three adults and three teens this week for burglary linked to Brownfield Country Club two local homes service stations in Meadow Ropesville and Wolfforth and a New Deal jewelry store. Suspects include Hugh McCleandon David Cox and Stanley Moffit with two Brownfield teens on probation and a juvenile boy referred to Lubbock police.

Legionnaires to Name Major Committees at Meeting

Brownfield Post 269 American Legion holds its regular meeting at Veterans Hall at 8 p.m. tonight. Post commander H. B. Virgil Crawford will announce appointments to nearly a dozen major committees for 1956 57 and the coming year.

Crippled Children's Clinic Set Next Monday in Brownfield

The Dawson Kynn Ferry Gaines Yoakum County Medical Society and the South Plains Health Department sponsor a crippled children clinic at East Main and 2 streets. The first clinic in two years will offer examinations for children under two with deformities or related conditions. Orthopedic surgeons from El Paso Amarillo Midland and Lubbock will consult.

Harvest Festival Queen Entries Are Announced

Three contestants vie for the Harvest Festival Queen title in Brownfield. Miss Migs Janith Spears, Miss Sarita Serenil, and Miss Kay Kessinger are featured with family details and sponsor ties as community events run from Oct 1 to Oct 11 including an Oilman Banquet and open houses by local firms. Proceeds fund Rotary projects and community programs.

District Field Day Promotes Grand Tour Farmers On Tour

A March field day will draw about 200 farmers and Agri business people to a daylong tour. The event features Soil Conservation Service and PSC supervisors guiding tours of farms near Brownfield and Lubboark with stops at Pace, Farrar, and Grayer farms to observe landweed eradication and cotton practices.
