Water, Inc. Forms Terry County Unit Meeting Set

Water, Inc. will organize the Terry County Unit at an 8 p.m. Thursday meeting September 18 at the Party House. John Kendrick, District 13 director and former president, says county members will form a local board and officers to guide new membership and educational activities. The group formed in 1967 by 1,000 business, professional and agricultural leaders helped secure West Texas inclusion in the Texas Water Plan.

Brown Elected President of Veterans Association

Dale Brown of Terry County has been elected president of the Veterans County Service Officers Association of Texas at the state meeting in Austin. He also serves as Veterans Service Officer for Terry County and holds multiple roles with local veterans and Kiwanis groups. The award was presented by Merlin Speed at the Holiday House for the 1968 Star Young Farmer.

Union Dismisses School Tuesday

Rainfall drenched Terry County beginning Monday evening and lasting into Tuesday. Totals reached four to five inches in several areas, with the Pool community and Union areas reporting significant totals. The Union School closed Tuesday due to the weather.

Flooded streets and rainfall reports hit Brownfield area

Civil defense director Lewis Simmonds and residents report rainfall totals from 1.04 to 4.5 inches in Brownfield and surrounding communities. Roads washed out in the county and a Cotton Boosters meeting was canceled due to the storms as streets ran curb deep in water.

Mullins Presides At Meet Over County Actions

Wayne Mullins presided at the Commissioners Court meeting in McKinney in the absence of County Judge W T McKinney. The court accepted the Public Employer Blanket Bond and a $450 Akers Insurance invoice, approved tire purchase for the sheriff's 1968 Oldsmobile, and chose the $205.40 low bid for an electric typewriter. It approved $100 for Lonnie Fulford to attend the Attorney General conference in Austin September 25 to 27. Attendees included Commissioners Smith, Setie, Bevers, Haley, County Auditor, and County Clerk Gray.

Policy Development Committee Meets To Discuss Farm Bureau Plans
