Jetton fish fry tour draws big crowd in Coleman Park

The 1960 Terry Soil Conservation District field trip in Brownfield includes a noon gathering at Coleman Park with a free ticketed fish fry. Twenty Brownfield firms cover transport and catering for guests traveling on TNM&O air conditioned buses. Huge Field Trip Under Way Today

About 400 people join the 7th TSCD Field Trip starting at the courthouse square at 9 a.m. The day includes farm stop visits to Alfred Tittle Kenneth Purtell Bill Carter Vernon Farrar James P Lewis Jess McWherter Lloyd Hahn a noon fish fry in Coleman Park and a tour aboard TNM&O buses. Lunch tickets cost 1.75 with ducats sold at the site for nonparticipants.

Enrollment climbs in Brownfield schools totals 2653

Enrollments reach 2653 Monday with 2519 white students up 11 from 1959. Randal and Colonial Heights host 318 first graders while Wheatley has 134. Colonial Heights and Randal show large second and third grade counts. junior high totals 612 with the sixth grade at 219.

Dorman Dumas abandons plans for a wet-dry election as Brownfield petitions fall short. County Clerk Wade Yandell says 50 to 60 signatures invalid, including seniors without exemptions, 21 year olds lacking certificates, and mismatched signatures, leaving well under 600. Friday Tilt Fans Urged To Buy Grid Tickets Early

Levelland football tickets for the Brownfield game go on sale at 5 30 pm Friday at the west stadium booth. Dillie M Kelley the school business manager urged fans to buy early to avoid delays. All tickets cost 150 dollars and season tickets remain on sale until noon Friday at the school office.

King Brothers Circus To Visit Brownfield For Boys Club

The King Brothers circus arrives Monday in Brownfield under Brownfield Boys Club sponsorship. Two shows at 3:30 and 8 p.m. at Old Cub Football Stadium on Lubbock Highway feature Prin ce Diami the elephant and Mr. Mike the chimpanzee with trained dogs and clowns. Manuel Bruce Smith Dies After Long Illness In Brownfield

The Brownfield man 36, Manuel Bruce Smith of 1112 South Third, died Tuesday night after a Hodgkin’s disease battle. Funeral services set for Friday at Nazarene Church with several clergy assisting. Survivors include wife, two sons, five daughters, parents, four brothers, and three sisters. Smith moved to Terry in 1935 and worked as a carpenter. Brownfield building permits reveal over 249 thousand dollars in July and August, pushing 1960 totals past 804 thousand dollars with more expected to exceed one million. Largest permit, 72 thousand, went to the State Highway Department for a new office and warehouse building.

Young Dennis Puryear Critical After Farm Accident

Nine year old Dennis George Puryear remained in critical condition at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock after a head injury from a fall from a moving pickup on a farm to market road near Foster. He is unconscious and the son of Mr. and Mrs. G H Puryear of Route 3, who recently moved from California.

Cubs Set to Tangle With Levelland in Friday Showdown
