The 23 boys chosen this week as probable Cub traveling squad members face a wide open team with eight returning lettermen eight starters among them. Coach Doug Cox emphasizes that any youngster who proves he can and wants to play has a chance before the season opener at Levelland on September 13. V Ward en Medalist as Men's Tourney Begins
Ray Warden fired a one over par 73 Sunday to take medalist honors in the qualification round for Brown Field Country Club's men's golf tournament. About 28 Terry golfers qualified for the week long event with four rounds of match play, finals Sunday. Don O'Neal upset the defending champion B F Hutsok 3 and 2 in first round play Monday. Other first round results include Jack Shirley over Jeff Chesshir 3 and 2 and Jerry Goble over Mike Hamilton 2 and 1.

Traffic Mishaps Increase in City for August
City police report August saw 15 crashes raising the year total to 74. The first 1957 city fatality occurred when 71 year old E. E. Baker of Brownfield was struck by a truck. Three injuries brought city Mishaps to five for the year as Chief James Tippit urged drivers to slow down and noted heightened patrols on Lubbock Road and in school zones.

Pioneer Thomas M Cargill Killed in Two Car Wreck
An 80 year old Brownfield pioneer, Thomas M Cargill, died in a two car collision at Plains Highway and Cutoff 137 near 7 p.m. Tuesday. The crash injured Mr and Mrs J H Parrish of Route 1 and occurred as Cargill and Mrs Hill traveled north and Parrish west. Cargill’s wife and Mrs Hill were uninjured. Authorities noted no skid marks and that both cars had moderate damage. Survivors include his wife and one son H M Cargill.

Final Rite Held For Judge C. Prestridge
Funeral services for Judge C. Prestridge age 52 were held at Evangelical Methodist Church with Rev William Mayo officiating. Burial followed at Brownfield Cemetery. He lived in Grand Prairie six years after moving from Brownfield where he resided 25 years. Survived by wife, son Calvin of Grand Prairie, daughter Juanita Whatley of Grand Prairie, father William A. Prestridge of Shreveport, six brothers and two sisters.
