Brownfield City Council discussed SPS rate requests and approved the city's 1982 tax roll during Thursday morning session. The meeting highlighted tax figures and rate considerations for the upcoming fiscal year, with officials outlining implications for residents and local services.

The Terry Soil and Water Conservation District earned second place in the Goodyear Conservation Awards Contest at the Texas SWCDs annual meeting in Austin. Director Robert Luker accepted the honor for conservation education and water conservation efforts.
Floyd Reed, 27, of 517 East Broadway, found guilty of aggravated rape by a Terry County jury after 2 hours 55 minutes of deliberation. He received 99 years in the Texas Department of Corrections and a $10,000 fine. Prosecutor was Dwayne Pruitt. defense lawyer Marvin Williams Jr. Reed was tried in 121st District Court before Judge Ray Anderson for an August 2 attack on an 18 year old Brownfield woman. Mario Moreno pled guilty to possession of a controlled substance and got three years in TDC.
