Garden Club Christmas Tour to showcase local homes Thursday

Gillham Park project moves forward at regular meeting

County Commissioners met Monday with all members present and approved travel funds for the County Judge's Secretary and First Deputy County Clerk to a Vital Statistics Conference in Austin. They directed Santa Fe Railroad to curb overgrowth affecting drainage and crops near rights of way and agreed to cooperative development of Gillham Park with Brownfield, the Park Board, and the Mental Health Board. Plans from Texas Tech students were reviewed, with landscaping chosen and funded by donations. land gifted by Mrs. Gillham to be developed within 10 years. The 9 acre site lies east of Brownfield on Tahoka Road, with gradual construction planned and city and county labor and equipment contributing. A December 12 vote may raise salaries by 5 percent. Cotton harvest progress is mixed with reports from local gins noting varying percentages completed and quality concerns due to weather and rainfall.
