Cotton Research Use A Revised Voting Requirements

Upland cotton voters now have until December 9 to establish production interest in counties or states outside their eligible voting area. The change, announced by the USDA's C M S, affects how production is counted toward a two thirds threshold for a research ad promotion order. The order, proposed by the National Cotton Council, aims to bolster cotton markets and competitiveness.

Boom Continues for Terry County Residents

A Census Bureau study shows Terry County residents gained purchasing power and jobs from 1960 to 1965. After tax earnings rose from 1658 to 2220 dollars per person, a 32 percent gain, outpacing national and Texas growth. Local retail outlays jumped 45.6 percent, fueling a five year boom in the county.

Long Distance Rates Reduced in Texas

General Telephone Company of the Southwest Southwestern States Telephone and Four States Telephone announce reduced intrastate long distance rates for station-to-station calls within Texas effective Jan 1 1967. Danner says three to five to fifteen cent cuts for under 56 mile calls with greater reductions for over three minutes. Night rate hours after 8 p m and all day Sunday included. Tariffs to offices handling long distance will be distributed. date uncertain.

Scout Leaders To Be Honored In Quanah Parker Dinner

Marc Eason of Ralls will speak at the Quanah Parker District appreciation dinner at the American Legion Hall Tuesday. Eason chairs the 1967 Region Nine Explorer Delegate Conference and is a Ralls High School student and Explorer Post 333 member. The event honors Scout leaders across five counties in the South Plains Council. Cubmasters Scout leaders and associates are urged to attend with their wives as appreciation for service to boys.

Cub Stadium to Host Regional Class B Football Playoff

Brownfield announces Cub Stadium will host the Regional Class B playoff between Vega and Bronte Friday at 7 30 p m with about 1500 fans expected. Vega seeks an eighth win against Bronte whose 10 1 season includes star tailback Doug McCutchen who has 206 points.

Huckabee Named To National Council

J B Huckabee is named vice chairman of the National Americanism Council of the American Legion. The appointment lasts until the close of the 1967 fall meeting of the National Executive Committee. John E Davis, national commander, made the appointment on the recommendation of Huckabee's department officers.

Hospital District Board Attends Commissioners Court

Terry Memorial Hospital District directors met with Terry County Commissioners to discuss the tax collection amount for the year. Attendees included board president Lee Bartlett and hospital administrator Joe McWilliams, with attorney Ray Anderson also present. J. D. Akers explained about 80,000 dollars would be collected and proposed a one percent rate.
