The Terry County Commissioners heard an update from architect David Messersmith on the West Texas Children’s Centre at Bynum Lane slated to finish by February. He outlined change orders, time extensions, and a plan to address a Dell-Star related refurbishment while noting costs and a pending letter of agreement with the contractor.
Terry County United Way fundraising continues with about 11 000 collected to date about 28 percent of the 1996 38 500 goal. Local chairman Jody Bradley says the drive is off and running and already 25 percent higher than last year. The campaign funds 12 agencies including Brownfield Meals on Wheels Caprock Girl Scouts and the Red Cross with new telemarketing efforts led by Wal Mart staff plus volunteers to broaden community support. Kimberly Quintanilla chairs the General Division and Patsy Nicholson the Advanced Division as they target business and public sectors.
Lindy Harris, secretary at the South Plains Water Conservation District since 1993, keeps operations lively while helping Manager Lee Arrington process loans for pivot systems. A Brownfield native who raised her family there, she enjoys meeting people and looks ahead to the Soil and Water Conservation Conference in January. See Good Neighbor Page 4.
