The Terry County Grand Jury handed down four indictments on forged instrument charges. Rau Garcia and Mary Garcia face two counts each for passing forged checks, one for $81 drawn on First National Bank of Brownfield allegedly to Carmen Garza. Bail $2,500 each. Petra R Arguijo and Felix Arguijo incur two counts each for passing forged checks, one for $200 to Rick Gutierrez, drawn on First National Bank of Brownfield. Bail $2,000 each.
The second annual Old Time Christmas Celebration will be at 7 p.m. Monday November 28 on the Brownfield Courthouse square. Events include Christmas Lights switch on and a musical program by the High School Band and Choir and New Horizons from Christian Center Academy. Santa arrives by firetruck to give candy, merchants stay open 7 to 9 p.m., and prizes will be awarded by the Trade Development Committee with entry at participating merchants.
County Attorney Dwayne Pruitt warns shoplifting harms both juveniles and adults and urges prosecution. City Judge F S Burda notes a small rise in thefts with penalties ranging from fines to jail, including felonies for high values and potential school or juvenile outcomes.
