Meet Your Nabor profiles Mrs. Michael Shaw a journalism teacher at Brownfield High born September 8 1949 in Childress Texas raised in Longview where she attended Gladewater High and earned valedictorian honors at Baylor University she majored in art and journalism and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She led Kappa Pi as president 1969-70 and taught art at Foster Junior High before moving to Brownfield. The couple resides at 1117 Tohoka Road and attends Calvary Baptist Church.

UF Campaign Moving Along

The United Fund drive progresses slowly as workers prepare campaign packets and await results. Johnny Stockton reports envelopes list firms and donation quotas with final amounts known when packets are collected next week. Total goal is 33,480 with Day Care Center expected to receive 9,000. multiple committee chairs are named and weekly director meetings scheduled at the Terry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.

GI Bill Trainees Get Boosted Educational Allowances

President Nixon approved a retroactive increase in GI Bill trainees educational assistance rates. New monthly payments begin as advances in November, with higher amounts for single and dependent trainees and changes to tutoring, correspondence courses, and dependents education protections.

Century Club Honors Blacklock Welcomed to WTCC Board

Hank Jordan received a century club cer tificate on October 19 as a member of the Century Club of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce. Stan Blacklock is welcomed to the WTCC board after being elected last week by local Chamber members. The Century Club includes directors with 100 new or increased memberships. 26 WTCC directors have achieved this. Jordan is area public affairs manager for General Telephone Co. of the Southwest. Blacklock is a partner owner of the Kelsage Blacklock Chevrolet Agency in Brownfield.

Buster to Speak at API Meeting Tonight

John L. Buster, consultant to oil firms on training programs, will be featured speaker for the South Plains Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute at 6 30 p m tonight at Brown field Country Club. He will discuss winning attitudes and has written on cementing methods. Hospitality hour precedes the program.

City Hall Open House Honors Past Officials

More than 100 people attended City Hall Open House on Sunday afternoon October 29. Zelma Miller, city secretary, said the event honored past mayors and aldermen, with former leaders including Jack Hamilton and C. E. Ross among attendees. Scholarships of 250 and 500 dollars were noted for South Plains College and Texas Tech University. The article also highlights Terry County rainfall through October 1972 and a October weather pattern with cold winds and thunderstorms.

Absentee Voting Surges in Terry County

Terry County reported rising absentee voting with one day left. Clerk Frank Gray said 150 people voted in person and 24 mailed ballots by noon Tuesday. The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday. office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voters must bring registration cards.
