Dry winds slow High Plains cotton planting progress
High Plains growers face dry soil and record heat as wind disrupts plant establishment across about three quarters of 3.75 million acres. Irrigated fields show roughly 70 percent planted, non irrigated 20 to 25 percent, with replant and soil management options likely. GM cotton adoption rises, reaching over 40 percent of U.S. acres through 1998, boosting yields and pest control. Two 2,4-DB workshops set for June 5 and 6 in Seminole and Brownfield, offering CEUs and no registration fee. Sponsored by Cedar Chemical and partners including Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
