Brownfield school choirs state spring concerts
Brownfield Middle School and Brownfield High School present their annual spring choral concert at 7 p.m. this Thursday in the BMS Auditorium. BMS Director Donna Ham and BHS Director Cheryl Davis oversee middle and high school choirs with a program about 90 minutes, followed by an awards party. The program features BHS Girls Choir pieces and a combined high school choir number, plus fifth period sixth grade selections with listed student singers.

Henson twins top Meadow honors at Meadow High

Healer accused of stealing from Brownfield resident
Brownfield police investigate a case in which a self described faith healer named Sister Samantha is suspected of taking $3,000 owned by a local resident. Reported May 18, the incident dates from May 17 when she visited, claimed to cleanse evil spirits, and left holy water instructions and funds with the resident.

May 23 1990 veto could hurt BCISD finances
BCISD superintendent Don Hendley warned at Monday night’s meeting that Senate Bill 1 could bring the district as much as 800000 if passed, but negotiations reportedly stalled. He said a veto appears likely and that an override would be pursued to protect payroll and summer operations. The meeting also featured board reorganization and personnel changes, including resignations and new hires.

Heather West a Brownfield High School senior was crowned District Lion Queen at Levelland after a pageant with 34 contestants. Representing the Noon Lions Club, she is Brownfield’s first to win this honor and will compete in the state Lions pageant on June 7.
