Buddy Poppy sale and Road E-O winners at Brownfield

VEW Post 6794 will sell buddy poppies on Brownfield streets with Girl and Boy Scouts assisting to honor the dead while aiding living veterans. The annual Road E-O contest by Brownfield Jaycees crowned top students and featured luncheon guests and regional finalists in Levelland.

Pest Infestations Hit Cotton Fields Across County

County Agent Foy reports thrips and aphids injuring young cotton, with grasshoppers common in turmerows and pastures. Drive-In and Basement Plans Revealed by Brownfield Bank

Mail Box Improvement Week Observed Nationwide

Brownfield postmaster Wm C Brown announces Mail Box Improvement Week urging patrons to inspect rural mail boxes for compliance. Requirements include legible name, proper mounting height about 3–4 feet, weather protection, and a flag. Officials will inspect about 37 000 rural routes this month and consult with patrons whose boxes fail to meet standards.

Whites Beat Reds In Intrasquad Football Tilt

The Whites defeated the Reds 6 to 6 in a spring training game at Cub Stadium. Led by quarterback Joe Oswald and Leon Hinson the Whites showed strong runs while facing a tough Reds defense led by Jimmy Rogers. The first half featured hard-hitting defenses and a White fumble set back the drive.

Ex-Resident of County Marks 100th Birthday in Carlsbad

The 100th birthday of Mrs. W. J. Hester of Carlsbad was celebrated at the home of her daughter Mrs. A. A. Comstock. Born May 20, 1858 in Fayetteville Tennessee, she has lived in Texas and Oklahoma, has six daughters and three sons, and celebrated 71 years of marriage to W. I. Hester before his death.

Legion Baseball Meeting Open To Local Youths

All Terry youths interested in playing baseball this summer with The American Legion are invited to meet at 2 p.m. Saturday in The Legion Hall. J. B. Huckabee presides. 17-year-olds after last Sept. 1 are eligible. Darrel Lewis will coach this year's Legion team.

Minister Elected to General Assembly in Presbyterian Merger

The Rev. Ralph O'Dell of 1215 East Broadway was elected commissioner to the General Assembly of the United Presbyterian Church in the USA. The assembly meets May 28 to June 4 in Pittsburgh to oversee the merger of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S. A and the United Presbyterian Church of North America. He will depart Sunday and return June 12 to Brownfield.

Final services for FE L Farmer 57 of Route 5 were held Tuesday at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev James Tidwell officiated with burial at Terry County Memorial Cemetery.
