Brownfield High honors 1997 senior class at awards
The Brownfield High School 1997 graduating class was recognized for leadership, character, and academics at the Senior Awards Assembly in Cub Gym. Sylvia Chavez and Debbie Gonzalez were valedictorian and salutatorian, with 14 seniors named to Who's Who and scholarships totaling $81,050 awarded to 30 students by clubs, businesses, and individuals.

Crossing Guards Boost Brownfield School Zone Safety
Brownfield Police Department has expanded crosswalks and added crossing guards at Brownfield Middle, Brownfield Intermediate, and Colonial Heights Elementary to improve safety amid heavy traffic. Lt. Darwin Huston says the move follows parental concerns and aims to ease transitions next year with guards at all secondary schools. Contact Lt. Brownfield junior wins national Scholastic Art Award in drawing
Brownfield High School junior Randy Anthony won first place in the Drawing division of the Scholastic Art Awards National Contest in Washington DC. He earned the SAA Silver Award for his airbrush drawing Airbrush This is a very special accomplishment. Anthony advanced by winning first place in the regional contest and was among 700 pieces accepted nationally. The work will be exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery. Anthony is Brownfield’s second national winner, following Lala Lira in 1992.

Commissioners to discuss WTCAC in special session
Terry County Commissioners will meet in special session at 10 a.m. Monday to discuss a lease agreement with the West Texas Children's Centre. The agenda also includes the 1997 computer cost share program for the county agent's department and the installation of an underground sprinkler system for the proposed fitness park in northeast Brownfield.
