Gray resigns as Terry County Clerk and Willis named

County Commissioners accept the resignation of County Clerk Frank Gray for health reasons. Ann Willis will complete the unexpired term ending Dec 31, 1986, and be sworn in after 5 p.m. May 31. Also approved bids on a vibrator roller, bonds for Tax Assessor-Collector Rechelle Davis, two new Veterans Land Board members, and bids and contracts for courthouse services, a county truck, and utility easements.

BHS Athletic Banquet Set Saturday With Ed Mooney Speaker

Former Texas Tech star Ed Mooney will be principal speaker at the Brownfield High School athletic banquet in the BHS Gym on May 18. Tickets are 5.50 each, available in the high school office. Superintendent Don Hendley will host, with Mr. and Miss Cub awards, sport outstanding performer honors, and recognition for all who participated in athletics. BRMC Trustees Review Group Insurance Plan Options

The Terry Memorial Hospital Board held a two hour session Monday night hearing presentations from Brown Insurance Agency Mason Nichols and Warner CPA and a citizen urging another doctor hire. Administrator Pat McMillan said BRMC spent 222000 on group insurance in the last year and noted a plan could save about 40000. A Brown/Banks Life plan was presented but savings for employees could not be determined and was tabled for comparison.

Cubs claim outright 3-AAA baseball title with win

Brownfield High School Cubs rallied from a 4-2 deficit to beat Seminole 13-8 in Seminole and secure the District 3-AAA crown. Danny Garza hit a home run, with four doubles and a triple among 13 hits. Junior Garcia had a triple, Ricky Garcia Heath McVay Tony Garcia and Martin Fonseca also contributed. The Cubs improve to 14-9 overall and 4-0 in district play.

Councilmen face long agenda this Thursday

Brownfield city council plans a morning session at 8:30 with two public hearings. First to consider closing and abandoning an alley west of the Alco Store, requested by W T Gibbs who owns adjacent buildings. Second to hear BISD traffic impacts and apply for Texas Community Development Block Grant funds. The meeting will also cover a wholesale electric rate case intervention and a BISD presentation by Superintendent Don Hendley.

City to honor Adams with special day

The Brownfield City Council will issue a proclamation at 9 a.m. naming Thursday as Mark Adams Day. A 3 p.m. reception at city hall honors Adams, a Brownfield High School alumnus now head boys basketball coach at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, who led the Wayland Pioneers to the NAIA finals in Kansas City.

Area schools map last weeks of activities

Four local schools publish final events for the school year. Brownfield High lists honors, concerts, banquets and exams through May 30 with multiple assemblies, games and elections. Plains, Meadow, and Union schools also schedule concerts, banquets, final exams, and graduations through late May and early June.
