Brownfield High School New Horizons choir plans a Monday musical revue with the theme Come to the Cabaret. The event showcases student performers, with selections reflecting a cabaret style from popular tunes.
A private pesticide applicator program is scheduled for 8 30 a m Monday at the Terry County Park Amphitheater for Terry County producers. The free 90 minute program will start at 7 30 p m at the Middle School Auditorium. Choir director Cheryl Davis described the spring concert, noting more than 200 hours of rehearsal by the ensemble and New Horizons singers with selections from Broadway shows, Oliver, Peter Pan, West Side Story and Cabaret.
At Brownfield High School on May 8 the Future Farmers of America held their year end awards banquet. Paul Miller received the Star State Farmer award and presented the Sweetheart award to Gena Cooper. In town Star Greenhand honors went to Mark Hyatt while Chuck Butler was honored out of town. Star Chapter Farmer honors went to Trent Darby in town and Donald Bailey out of town. Dusty Shelhamer was named Star Ag Mechanics student and Paul Miller received the President's Award. The Noon Lions Club plans a mop and broom sale starting 9 a.m. Wednesday on the Brownfield Plaza United Super Market parking lot with door to door sales also planned. Advance orders may be placed by contacting any club member.
The Brownfield City Council met May 13 to approve ballots from Saturday's city election and to swear in four re-elected officials. The council authorized a tax abatement contract with Kwik Car Lube and Tune under a newly adopted reinvestment zone, following a public hearing led by City Manager Dick Fletcher.
Brownfield council authorized seeking bids for equipment for a proposed senior citizen and homebound persons program after Police Chief J T Churchwell presented details at the April 19 meeting. Fletcher noted the item is not in the budget, so council must authorize to solicit proposals, with costs covering software a printer and a module. Two firms gave ballpark figures. Northland Innovation Corporation of St Paul MN quoted 3500 for software excluding travel.
