Brownfield Tech Students Win AAA State TSA Title
Brownfield High School technology students won the Class AAA State Championship at the State TSA Contest in Waco with the highest point totals and best average. The team dominated, with Shannon Paxton, Prissy Salazar, Jason Morgensen, Ronnie Hooper, and Jonathan Villarreal among state champions and top placers across computer test, structural engineering, furniture, safety, CAD, drawing, and model building. Gauger was elected Sergeant at Arms. instructor George Howle leads the champions.

Terry County commissioners study jail needs for future
County officials reviewed a Texas Standards Commission report indicating Terry County may require 39 to 61 jail beds by 2000. The 14-bed facility would need expansion or a new jail, with costs expected around 30,000 per bed plus more staff. Chamber directors plan Summer events schedule in Brownfield
Brownfield Chamber of Commerce directors discussed a June 12 tribute to Sheryl Swoopes at Cub Stadium with coaches and teammates present including Marsha Sharp and Dickie Faught. A July 23-24 Gillham Park fishing tournament was set, with a possible July 3 military parade. The banquet date was moved to April amid efforts to boost attendance.

Brownfield High School will hold its annual Spring Band Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Middle School Auditorium. The Concert Band directed by Jamie Shipp and the Symphonic Band directed by Richard Herrera will perform. both groups earned top UIL ratings recently. This is the seniors’ final performance, and admission is free for the public.
