BRMC to Open Polls Saturday for Hospital Board

Voters will cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday for four Terry Memorial Hospital District board seats. Ed Pfeiffer and Don Park join incumbents Zane Cox and Scott Raney. Ann Jowers and Joe Masso do not seek re election. Balloting at Terry County Courthouse with Frank Gray as election judge. By Tuesday's absentee deadline about 35 ballots had been cast at Brownfield Regional Medical Center business office.

Brownfield Students Shine At San Angelo Language Festival

Brownfield High School language students competed at the Foreign Language Festival on Angelo State University campus in San Angelo. Over 20 French and Spanish participants earned superior or excellent ratings in poetry prose sight reading and skits with multiple named students and two six member groups earning top awards.

Brownfield News wins fourth consecutive TSTA School Bell Award

The Brownfield News received its fourth straight School Bell Award at the 112th Texas State Teachers Association convention in El Paso. Publisher Lynn Brisendine accepted the award for the paper and staff after being selected from 64 entries in the semi weekly small market division for Outstanding Continuous Coverage. Delegates Julie Combes, Nancy Cooper and Mary Jane O'Daniel attended, as did 48 bells awarded statewide to media outlets.

BMS Cadet Band Wins Petersburg Music Festival

Brownfield Middle School director Bill Shipp entered the BMS Cadet Band in its first competition at the Petersburg Band Festival. The group won the Sweepstakes Award and was named outstanding Cadet Band among Petersburg, Lubbock Christian, Abernathy, Port Lee, and other entries.

Terry County soil conservation staff vital to farmers

Terry County operates with over 480000 acres of erodible cropland and a SCS staff of specialists who develop conservation plans for 1450 farms. Administered by the USDA, the office offers technical and cost sharing assistance, linking programs like Great Plains Conservation with Texas Tech Foundation contracts and local farmers such as Ellington Green and Smith. The program spans three to ten year contracts and supports soil and water conservation to reduce erosion.
