Voters Approve 680000 Revenue Bonds for City Plant
Brownfield voters approved a 680000 revenue bond issue by 189 to 41 in a city hall vote. Funds will buy a Nordberg diesel engine and cover cooling tower switchgear and installation for the Municipal Power and Light Plant. The election also names a mayor and two councilmen.

Unique Summer Program For Non English Speaking Children
A two month summer program for pre school children who do not speak English will start this year in Brownfield. The free sessions run 8 to 11 a m each weekday from June 6 through August 5 with no class July 4. About 90 eligible youngsters will take part in the nine week course teaching 400 basic words and oral communication. Delwin Webb, Brownfield curriculum coordinator, said three teachers are employed and more will be added if needed.
