Absentee deadline looms as Terry County votes race to polls
Voters must file absentee ballots by 5 p.m. Tuesday for the April 3 city, school and hospital board elections in Terry County. Brownfield residents report 132 absentee ballots cast at the school administration building while 47 voted on bingo and 23 in the Brownfield City election. Several races include Brownfield School Board with three open seats, Brownfield City Council and Meadow and Union School boards with incumbents, and a write-in mayoral race in Meadow. Countywide turnout anticipated ahead of the election day.

First National Bank Brownfield Announces $890,000 Remodeling
At a news conference Bank President L J Richardson said the First National Bank of Brownfield will start a two phase remodeling adding 270 new safety deposit boxes and expanding vaults. The plan includes 7000 square feet on the second floor, a new elevator and stairway, and a temporary lobby across the street during construction.

Elrod Outlines Brownfield Civil Defense Plan
Brownfield Civil Defense Director Earl Elrod told city and county officials that the emergency plan is ready to operate at the proper time with the same leaders who handle daily government. He noted cooperation from utility companies amateur radio groups and large equipment owners and said nearby towns including Plainview would aid Brownfield if needed. In severe weather spotters will monitor conditions and an emergency operations center in the police basement may host officials and radio broadcasts.
