County Removes Crow Bounty After Wildlife Service Input

County commissioners ended the crow bounty at a Thursday meeting following input from Don Krieble a U S Fish and Wildlife Service agent who said killing ravens is illegal and that ravens roost with the crows causing misidentification by hunters. The move takes effect at midnight March 27 as Audubon Society concerns were noted.

Argument Precedes Knife and Gun Incident in Brownfield Flats

A Sunday morning altercation near a club led to Lionel Morin, 19, being shot in the chest by Clyde Young after Morin allegedly pulled a knife during an argument that began with a horn honk. Morin was treated at Brownfield General Hospital then moved to Methodist in Lubbock. Police responded at 6:07 a.m. and found Morin about 200 feet south of the club.

ASCS Reminds Producers Of Deadlines

John Stockton Jr. of the Terry County ASCS office announced deadlines for disaster program payments. All producers sharing payments must sign by May 1, 1975, and under 1975 rules cotton producers must file requests for released or transferred allotment acreage by April 1.

Newton Named Area Supervisor for Amoco in West Texas

James N. Newton was named area administrative supervisor for Amoco Production Company here effective March 23, announced by John Okerson. Newton succeeds Richard Tucker who retired. A Baird native and UT accounting graduate, Newton joined Amoco in 1951 as a roustabout near Longview and held posts in Andrews Midland Brownfield and other offices. He is active with the South Plains American Petroleum Institute and the American Legion Post 269 in Brownfield. He and his wife Laverne reside at 1416 Reppte. their son, Rev James N Newton Jr., attends SMU in Dallas. Amoco Production is a major oil producer in West Texas and is a U S exploration and production subsidiary of Standard Oil Company (Indiana).

Goodpasture Introduces Fume Abatement Process

Brownfield firm Goodpasture Inc unveils the Goodpasture Fume Abatement process to remove NOx from plant effluent. The method limits NOx to 150 ppm or less continuously and has been reviewed by state and federal pollution agencies.
