Terry County Junior Livestock Show Opens with Weigh‑ins and Judging

The Terry County Junior Livestock Show opens at 3:30 p.m. Friday with weigh‑ins through 8 a.m. Saturday. Sheep and calves weigh at 10 a.m. Saturday, swine 8 a.m. Monday. The event, sponsored by the Brownfield Chamber and Terry County Young Farmers, features extensive judging, verifications, and open barn hours.

Sixteen FILE FOR PLACES ON HOSPITAL BOARD

Members of the Terry Memorial Hospital Board met in a called session Monday night to accept names for the ballot for the board election. Sixteen candidates were listed with six incumbents seeking re election. voting will be at the county clerk's office. The board also voted to call an $809000 bond election for a Brownfield hospital project matched by federal funds for a 50 bed facility with core medical services.

Kiwanis Club welcomes Lt. Governor speaker at Brownfield meeting

Lt. Governor Charles Sylvester addressed the Brownfield Kiwanis Club at noon Tuesday, presenting a film on Kiwanis community service. Membership applications were filed by Garland Moore, Charles Wilkes, and Johnny Willis as Melton Stewart presided. Tickets for the Pancake Supper were announced for March 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the junior high cafeteria.

Cubs Seminole game set today in severe dust storm

Brownfield Cubs second game of the season was canceled Tuesday as a dust laden norther swept through the area. The Cubs were to play Seminole here at 4:15 p.m. today and would travel to Plainview on Friday for a game there.

Brownfield Chamber of Commerce to Vote on Name Change

Brownfield Chamber members will vote by mail with a 5 p.m. March 14 deadline. Directors favor changing the name to Terry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture to reflect urban and rural growth across the county while keeping dues unchanged.

Donations Pour In For Terry County Junior Livestock Show

A total of 4276.52 is raised by county businesses and individuals for the 1967 Terry County Junior Livestock Show co sponsored by the Terry County Young Farmers and the Brownfield Jaycees. The event runs Friday through Monday with an open house Sunday and no judging that day. Top donors include South Gin Co op with 200 dollars Meadow Co op Gin 150 Western Grain Company 140 and Brownfield Coop Gin 125 with many firms and residents contributing smaller amounts.

Test Slated For CD Siren March Thirteenth

Civil Defense plans a noon siren test Monday March 13 with a backup Tuesday March 14 if weather prevents. The tests warn local emergencies and national emergencies with distinct tones and encourage radios tuned to KKUB for explanations. Sirens are placed at Legion Hall, Lanny Avenue, Howell and Repp... City Hall siren used only for true emergencies.

Webb Installed As JC President In Brownfield

Lanny Webb was installed as president of the Brownfield Jaycees at the regular weekly meeting with Capitan Henry C. Hill of Webb Air Force Base as installing officer. Officers installed included O. D. Hearne and Ray Anderson as vice presidents, Marlon Sumnitt publicity chairman, Jim Hensley treasurer, Jack Greenfield director and Marion Snell inter-club director. The ceremony followed a Brownfield High School band program directed by John Garrison. Captain Hill urged the Jaycees toward service to humanity and noted leaders must endure long days. Marion Snell, outgoing president, reported $148.14 raised for the March of Dimes and plans to mobilize voters for upcoming elections.
