Brownfield High School caps a memorable season as both girls and boys teams earn state bids. Brent Jones shines in regional play, while the Cubs celebrate a comeback win over Dimmitt Bobcats and lament nets' cutting defeat.

Brown High School English classes help four Colonial Heights Elementary first grade classes each Tuesday and Wednesday. Teachers Park Rich O'Daniel and Jolly supervise while BHS students lead creative writing. The program, started by Lana Perkins in 1985, aims to build self worth, friendships, and writing confidence in youngsters.
Brownfield’s varsity tennis team captured its fifth straight regional team title with a 10 3 win over Denver City. The squad advances to the Class 3A 2A 1A state team tournament in Austin starting Friday. The field also includes Canyon Lindale Vernon Groesbeck Marble Falls Fredricksburg Rockdale Knippa Cuero LaFeria Premont and others. Matches begin Friday at 8:30 a.m. at Pennick Allison courts with potential 2 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. Saturday rounds culminating in a Saturday 2 p.m. consolation.
Lana Perkins, English teacher at Brownfield High School, received a plaque for being nominated for a Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High School Teachers. She is one of 300 teachers statewide recognized for enhancing writing skills and preparation for higher education.
Beginning next school year Brownfield Intermediate School will offer a gifted talented program in language arts and math. Parents with BIS students may pick up nomination forms in the BIS office. Forms are due by April 15 and all nominees will be screened to determine eligibility.
