Three Plead Guilty In Court Action

District Judge Ray Anderson presided in 121st District Court as three defendants pled guilty or true to pleas. Esteban Navarro received a six year probated sentence and 500 dollar fine plus 97.50 court costs for felony theft with probation terms including alcohol abstinence and midnight curfew. Gregorio Garza pleaded guilty to burglary of a habitation and got a 10 year probated sentence with 97.50 court costs and same probation conditions. Ben Valentine pleaded guilty to forgery and received a five year term in the Texas Department of Corrections along with a true finding on probation revocation. One Santa Cruz case was dismissed due to lack of diligence in making the arrest.

BISD Observes Texas Public School Week with Open Houses

Brownfield Independent School District marks Texas Public School Week from Monday through Friday. Open houses are set 7 8 p.m. Monday at Brownfield Intermediate and Middle Schools and 7 8 p.m. Tuesday at Colonial Heights Elementary. Oak Grove Elementary hosts 730 830 p.m. Tuesday with PTA meetings at all three campuses. Brownfield High School offers class visits by appointment.

Brownfield Council to weigh electric rate hike and zoning request

Brownfield City Council will consider adopting a new electric rate schedule to offset rising Southwestern Public Service costs, with a potential increase effective April 1. The plan would raise residential base 100 kWh from 6.50 to 7 and commercial from 11 to 11.50. A zoning change from A-1 to C-1 for Charles Davis aims to operate a ceramic shop at 821 E. Main, facing church opposition. City Issues Nine Permits In February

The City of Brownfield issued nine building permits in February totaling 132200 including a new residence valued at 60000. For the first two months of 1983 permits total 205700 across 15 approvals, versus 422940 and 14 permits in early 1982.
