February brought rainfall to Brownfield and Terry County with 1.08 inches on Feb 14 and a total 1.90 inches for the month. Readings include 0.05 on Feb 15, 0.04 on Feb 17, 0.24 on Feb 24, 0.49 on Feb 21 and traces on Feb 18 and 22, plus a trace of snow on Feb 20. Temperatures ranged from 15 to 76 degrees, with forecasts predicting possible thunderstorms and gusty winds later. February’s rainfall exceeded the normal 0.70 inches for Terry County, though January had none.
The city marks World Day of Prayer with two programs led by Jaycees and church groups. A 10:11 a.m. reception at Civil Defense HQ invites ministers officials and civic club members for coffee. At 12 noon KKUB Radio will air a prayer session led by Rev Don McWhorter.
February saw twelve permits valued at 145 150 issued by building inspector Lewis Simmonds, lifting year to date to 17 permits totaling 191 150. Allowances included three dwellings, a church, motel expansion, and business remodels across multiple addresses with values up to 37 000 dollars.

More than 50 members from eight taxing agencies in Terry County attended a joint meeting at 7 30 p m on Thursday at the Holiday House. Agencies included Meadow City Council Brownfield City Council Terry County Commissioners Terry Memorial Hospital District Brownfield Meadow Wellman and Union Independent School Districts.
County Judge W T McKinney was elected president of the new County Council of Government. Other officers include Alva J Geron secretary Fred Finley first vice president Robert Luker second vice president and Burke Slaughter third vice president. A committee led by Bill McGowan will draft the constitution and by laws. Judge Rod Shaw of Lubbock spoke on COG purposes and community roots and the need for agencies to cooperate on equipment land use planning water health libraries and welfare.
Paul Risser addressed the Brownfield Rotary Club noting Central American progress and prison overcapacity issues. He highlighted education spending in Costa Rica and lack of an army. Rotarians announced Outsiders Volleyball Tournament at Brownfield High March 13 to 15 with signed teams and chairmen for tournament, ticket sales, credentials, and officials.
Mayor Jack Hamilton designates March 7 week as Public Schools Week in Brownfield. Colonial Heights and Brownfield High join in open houses across Monday to Thursday with time slots for each school. Patrons visit to meet teachers and view student work as Texas Public Schools Week marks Texas Education’s 115th birthday.
Meadow Independent School District boards faces election on April 5 with two incumbents Winifred Tucker and Don Day seeking re election and challengers J W Eubank and James Bartley filing. Election judge is Mayor Tom Verner with clerks Ann Brooks and Mary White. Polls open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Meadow High School gym foyer.
