Terry County votes on road policy and fire radio upgrade
Terry County commissioners publish a voluntary turn-on policy for paved roads affecting a few farmers while 95 percent comply. They plan asbestos cleanup funded by a $22,000 settlement at XYZ Club, delaying senior lunches for three weeks. They also approve a $1,000 contribution to a countywide fire radio system costing about $12,000, with a possible $5,000 grant from the Texas Forest Service. The project may start in September and close the XYZ Club during work.

Esther Ruth Henson’s long life in Terry County Texas
Esther Ruth Henson recalled her Brownfield beginnings living in a two room rental by the railroad Canada tracks, the family stock roundup on a snowy Christmas, and Santa at the church. Her father built a home and barn, later serving as Terry County Sheriff from 1932 to 1935. Esther Ruth and Joe Henson raised five children, added grandchildren, and planted the first pecan grove north of Brownfield. She spoke of her sons early Korean War draft numbers and their safe return, and of eighty years in Terry County spent in farm life and memory.
