City seeks to curb large mosquito surge after rains
Brownfield residents should expect an unusually large mosquito population within six to ten days following recent rains. Ray White city sanitation officer urges regular cleanup with homeowners to drain containers, remove tires and cans, and spray shrubs. Diesel oil may be used in water containers and evaporative coolers should be drained frequently. Committee Sets Special Meeting for Juvenile Officer Plan
The Terry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Community Development Committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to form a steering committee to draft recommendations to a juvenile officer for Brownfield. Brownfield Completes Canadian River Water Project
About 40 people attended a 10 a.m. ceremony in Brownfield marking the completion of the Canadian River water project for the city. Mayor C E Ross and city manager Jake Geron led remarks noting the project began in 1949, with Brownfield receiving 4.2 million gallons since testing started June 16 and a contracted 90 million gallons through August flowing through the mains.

Multiple Arrests Reported For Forgery And Related Offenses
Two subjects, Thelma Jean Rakestraw and Robert Lynn Rakestraw, were arrested by Terry County deputies on forgery and passing charges with $1,000 bonds. They await transfer to Haskell Sheriff with $2,000 bonds. Other incidents include Paul J. Gutierrez Jr. with aggravated assault and probation after fines. Dick Olevarez on assault with $500 bond. Dana Mackey on threatening to take a life with a $500 peace bond. Samuel Valencia brought back on bench warrant. Ernestine Garza on disturbance with $25 fine. Eugenio Rodrigues Cantu on traffic violations with $75 fine. Paul Gutierrez Jr. fined $67.50 on traffic warrants. Theft reports include Buddy Ball Motor Co. auto theft, and a break-in at Gulf Distributor on Lubbock Road. Police investigated four stalled cars and three crashes with no injuries. Additional arrests include Vicente Adame for drunken driving, Herman Larry Henderson for public drunkenness, Alvin Eugene Sanders for traffic violations, plus vandalism at 604 N Second Street. several fines paid.

Wayne Ratisseau Rescues Child At Ute Reservoir
A weekend at Ute Reservoir near Logan New Mexico ended in a near tragedy when six year old Roma Smith slipped under while swimming. Wayne Ratisseau dived in fully dressed and boots to rescue the child, losing his glasses in the effort.
