Commissioners accept Gaither resignation as county agent

County Farm Extension Agent Tom Gaither will resign effective July 1 to become a rancher in Oklahoma. Replacement to be chosen from district office recommendations. Bids for Terry County Airport seal coating and crack filling will be opened July 12 at 2 p.m. Runway repainting included. FAA preapplication filed for airport improvements grant.

Annual Clean up continues

The annual Clean-Up and Fix-Up campaign sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce beautification task force runs through this Saturday. Task force chairman Jim Denison notes June 25 through June 30 are set for Brownfield and County crews to extend help beyond regular dumpster pickup. Tree trimmings and large trash items may be handled during the week.

Brownfield Increases City Sales Tax to 7 3/4 Percent

State Comptroller Bob Bullock announced Brownfield will impose a half percent city sales tax starting Sunday, July 1, to fund industrial development. The total sales tax rises to 7 3/4 percent with the existing 1 percent city tax, while state tax changes to 6 1/4 percent. Taxpayers with permits were notified May 15 about the rate change and the fund supports the industrial development corporation's activities.

Brownfield Holds Steady Water Supply Amid Drought

Brownfield officials report ample water from 18 local wells and the Canadian River despite dry spells. City Water Superintendent Joe Cardenas notes gravity feeding to the Lubbock facility, chlorine disinfection, and a 590 million gallon annual allocation, with about three quarters used yearly. Four pumping stations support flows up to 2700 gallons per minute. water remains hard and slightly salty but supplies remain secure.

Jasper Jowers Named to South Plains Review Committee

Jasper Jowers, Precinct 3 Commissioner, is appointed to the South Plains Community Development Review Committee. The term runs from June 18 to January 1, 1992. The panel reviews funding applications for community development projects in area towns, cities, and counties and helps allocate Texas allocations from the federal block grant program.

Brownfield's tax rebate check increases in June

Brownfield, in Terry County, received a June state tax rebate check of 36 521 52 down to the dollar. up 59.12 percent from June 1989. Through six months the city has 208 777 41, down 2.01 percent from last year but less declining. statewide, 887 checks totaling 74 999 884 36 were mailed, up 13.07 percent from June 1989.
