Chamber to stage summer comedy musical next week

The Old Fashioned Tent Revival Soul Salvation Show brings lighthearted fun to Brownfield July 6 7 12 14 at the Middle School Auditorium. Performances start at 7 30 p m with tickets 7 for adults 4 for children from merchants the Chamber of Commerce or at the door. Playwright Lynda Billings says the work aims to tell a story rather than pose a statement.

Local man dies after Tuesday car crash in Brownfield

Norris Norman seventy of Brownfield died at Brownfield Regional Medical Center from injuries from a crash earlier Tuesday on the Tahoka Highway. Adam Heredia twenty three of Hobbs driving a Lonestar Fluids Inc truck allegedly ran a red light at Cedar Street, striking Norman’s northbound sedan. Norman died at 3:10 p.m. after ambulance transport. Heredia was treated for minor injuries and released. Police say charges are pending. Funeral services were held Friday in Lubbock with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Hinton to leave BHS band for ACU post

Blane Hinton, Brownfield High School Spirit of the Plains director for four years, will become assistant band director at Abilene Christian University next year. He explains duties in marching and concert settings and describes teaching responsibilities and coaching a brass quintet.

Firecracker Road Race marks 22nd renewal on July 4 at Coleman Park

State's oldest road race moves from Colonial Heights to Coleman Park for its 22nd edition. Events include Elementary Kids One Mile, Three and Ten Mile runs with multiple age divisions. Fees: up to 10 dollars per family for West Texas Running Club members, otherwise five and four dollars for three and ten miles, one dollar for the children’s race. Medals awarded to top finishers, with special medals for certain age groups. Open to preschoolers through sixth grade for the one mile. divisions for male and female three mile race. See Race.Page 2

Brownfield Independence Day Celebration Set for Wednesday

The annual Brownfield event begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Terry County Park with Laura Johnson and friends providing entertainment. Children’s games and a concession stand run by the Fire Fighters Auxiliary accompany a 9:30 p.m. fireworks show. News deadline is noon Monday and offices close noon Tuesday, reopen Thursday.
