About 1800 Little League players from Major and Minor leagues will canvas downtown and residential areas Saturday to sell 1000 inscribed booster buttons. Costs rose as Minor League joined Majors, with $600 owed for bats balls and equipment. No salaries, but many adults run the program. Buttons cost $1.
About 74 members of Brownfield National Guard unit left Sunday for a two week training camp at North Fort Hood. An advance party of 16 departed Saturday to prepare the site and bivouaced nearby. The main group, starting at 6 a.m., arrived Sunday afternoon for firing exercises and field training under 1st Lt. Victor Herring.
Brownfield American Legion baseball team forfeited a Saturday game against Muleshoe due to only eight players and later lost to Monterey of Lubbock 30 to 10. Coach Farris Nowell cited inexperience and conflicting work schedules as the main obstacles.
Hubert FE Brown Jr of Lubbock died in a truck collision near Tokio at about 7 am Tuesday, becoming South Plains 48th traffic fatality. The father of Croie Wilkerson, 70, died at home at 10 45 am Tuesday. He resided at 710 Burnt Oak and was taken to funeral services by Brownfield Funeral Home for burial.
