93yearold volunteer builds with Texas Baptist men in Lubbock
Cerise J Merritt Ed Smith, 93, finds purpose volunteering with Texas Baptist Men Builders on the Living and Learning Center of My Father's House in Lubbock. He joined 25 years ago after retiring from the U.S. Air Force and works on the 4.29 acre site, delivering 18 two bedroom apartments, classrooms, a kitchen, daycare and laundry facilities as part of the job corps style program for low income women. Volunteers live in mobile homes at Lubbock ISD facilities while meals are provided under stadium bleachers. The project has $1.5 million in volunteer labor value and honors his late wife Naomi’s 15 years of service.
