Terry Sesquicentennial Stage Show opens with Schoolma'arm Meets the Cowboy

The Terry County Sesquicentennial event features a musical drama about pioneer Caroline Ellington at Brownfield Middle School Auditorium. Written by Linda Billings and directed by Harriet Flache, the production includes songs by Billings, with Eddie Sharp handling music, and runs five performances June 19-21 and 27-28. Tickets are 4 for adults and 3 for children. cast highlights include Josie Daniels, Katrinka Rash, Bryan Gelwich, Kathy Chaveaux, Mike Hamilton, Bill Dyess, and Clay Snead.

Terry Appraisal District Budget Drops in 1987 Plan

The Terry County Appraisal District proposes a 1987 budget of 301 434 down from 305 685 in 1986. Chief Tax Appraiser J O Burnett cites a 1 4 percent decrease. The plan funds salaries for seven staff, retirement, insurance and related costs, financed by nine county governments with Brownfield School District contributing the largest share.

Brownfield City Council to Hear Chamber Budget Pick

Brownfield City Council meets Thursday at 7 30 a m with two items on the agenda. Chamber of Commerce Vice President Bobbye Slack presents the hotel motel tax budget under the city contract. Council will also consider bids for a new bulldozer for the landfill.

Brownfield Trustees Approve New Instructors

Brownfield Independent School District trustees met four and a half hours at the administration building Monday night to approve three new hires. Leslie Jane Backus will teach choir at Brownfield Middle School with a science degree and four years experience. Cynthia Funderburk will teach English and reading at Brownfield Middle School, holding a science degree and three years experience. Sheila Faye Rigues will be assigned an elementary grade with a science degree and no prior experience. The board also rehired three instructors from the prior year: Jena Bridges Ford to teach high school math, Paula Jones for physical education at Intermediate School, and Toni Trugillo for middle school math.

Cubs sweep honors as Brownfield Cubs shine on state run

Brownfield Cubs, state Class AAA finalists, place six players on District 3-AAA all league squad and name MVP Tony Garcia. Garcia goes 11-2 with 124 strikeouts, bats .373 and hits .750 in district. Teammates BlankenShip Fonseca Billings McVay Garcia posted strong season numbers as team finishes 24-7 before district play.

Terry wheat producers vote on production limits

Wheat producers will receive ballots to decide if they favor mandatory limits on wheat production under a poll required by the Food Security Act of 1985. County official Danny M. Decker notes participation is voluntary and non binding, with results to influence potential price impacts.
