South Plains College presents the 1983 Country Caravan in Brownfield at 8 p.m. at American Legion Amphitheatre in Coleman Park. Free to the public, eight vocalists perform a two hour show with a Caravan Cloggers dance troupe. Entry info for a June 24 26 softball tourney provided.

County Courthouse Renovation Funds Transferred
County commissioners moved about 142 962 dollars from the 1982 budget to 1983 to finance courthouse renovation work now underway. The project bid in December 1982 was 237 440 dollars. About 150 000 dollars is already in the 1983 budget for elevator work, landing, water pipes replacement, and restroom renovations in the 1925 courthouse. Also approved was the Brown field Ambulance monthly report.
Weedy problem draws Brownfield response in city weed crackdown
The city enforces a weed ordinance on Brownfield targeting waist high weeds in yards alleys and streets. Property owners get a 10 day notice before fines up to 200 per day. city may repair and bill the owner, with a 30 day payment window and potential lien. Junk cars on streets face the same 10 day notice and penalties. City Manager Dick Fletcher notes ongoing junk car issue and applies the same provisions.
