Terry County Voters Turn Out Light in Runoff Elections

In Terry County only 2.8 percent of 6,884 registered voters cast ballots in the Democratic Primary runoff. Local results show John Hannah over Jim Mattox 101 to 94 for attorney general, Pete Snelson over Garry Mauro 121-77 for land commissioner, Chuck Campbell over John Humphreys 92-85 in place one court of criminal appeals, and Bill Black over Chuck Miller 130-44 in place two, with each statewide outcome differing from local results.

Changes In Fall BHS Curriculum Planned

Brownfield School District outlines major fall changes led by language arts and science. The board approved raising English to four years for graduation, aiming to improve SAT performance and college readiness. seniors will choose from three English courses including literature or advanced grammar and technical writing.

Brownfield Police Investigate Thefts

Brownfield Police report nine arrests and multiple break ins and burglaries over four days. Losses include seven casters valued at 150 from Montgomery Construction at First National Bank, a $160 lawnmower from City storage at 7th and Hill, $295 cash from a North B street residence, two tires and wheels worth 420 plus $20 damage from Plains Motor Company, a spare tire from Kelsay Blacklock Chevrolet, and three bicycles plus several hundred dollars in cash from Western Club. Brownfield Residents Aid Seminole After May Tornado

About 100 bags and boxes of donated clothing food and household items were delivered to Seminole residents from Brownfield. The May 12 tornado prompted the drive and the Seminole Sentinel notes the gesture was appreciated by local residents.
