American State Bank to Honor Pioneer Family Statue
In September 1968 the American State Bank of Lubbock commissioned Granville W. Carter to sculpt a West Texas pioneer family for the bank park. The 1544 foot monument on an eight-foot Texas granite base portrays a laboring man, a flowering woman with Bible, and a boy, reflecting 1890 to 1910 settlers and West Texas culture. Carter, a Baldwin Long Island sculptor, studied in Europe and holds multiple honors and positions in American art societies.
