Bid Accepted Demolition Of West Ward To Begin Soon

The Brownfield Independent School District trustees met in a special session at Brownfield High School Little Theatre. Wilson Salvage Company of Lubbock submitted the low bid of 2250 for demolishing the West Ward School, with work to be completed in 60 days. Six other bids ranged up to 23125.

A Terry County Teen Age Republicans program on drug abuse education is set for Tuesday June 8 at 8 in the Party House. Omer Jim McCrummen will show drug and plant exhibits and answer medical questions. The event is expanded to include all interested adults and youth with aim to curb drug use.

City Council Deliberates Replatting and Clinic Plans

Citizens including Truett Flache Dr Sherman Hope and Billie Moore urged replatting to enable a clinic nursing home and a 50 unit apartment project. Council tabled the matter and agreed to review the property after the meeting while discussing the Brownfield Plan’s Capital Improvements Report and city debt outlook.

Johnson Plans To Destroy Bindweed In Barrow Ditches

Commissioner John Johnson outlines a precinct program to eradicate bindweed along the barrow ditches using sodium chlorate followed by Tordon seed or dry pellets. County Agent Jim Foy says the chemicals are approved and safe for use in these areas. Farmers wishing to participate are asked to contact Johnson as work begins immediately. Bindweed, also called possession vine, aggressively overtakes land and may lead to abandonment if not controlled. It climbs around any weed or crop and grows where there is no support.

Friends Plan Book Sale At Kendrick Memorial Library

Friends of the Library announce a five day book sale from June 7 to 11 in the upstairs rooms of Kendrick Memorial Library. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds support Kendrick Memorial Library. about 800 000 books were gathered including a 1960 Collier Encyclopedia.

Three Day Rodeo Opens June 7 In Terry County

The Terry County Sheriff's Posse sponsors a three day rodeo June 10 12 at the rodeo grounds with a downtown parade at 4 p m Thursday. Brenda Roberts Posse Queen will lead the parade and grand march opening the opening night at 8 p m. Stock from Whatley Company Crosbyton. Each night features 10 events including bull riding roping and barrel races plus a Pony Express Relay Race. Dance every night at County Barn with Chuck Hall and band.
