Douglass Rohre delivers address urging patriotism and sacrifice to preserve freedom amid riots and desecration. Special guests include Terry County mothers. others listed as attendees and absentees. Carriages given by American Legion Auxiliary. prayers led by Rev Frank Brooks. color presentation by local members.
The Community Action Agency board heard a program planning report by Dr. Tim Faulkenberry in chairman Jack Garrett's absence. Topics included pre vocational training for Terry County, Neighborhood Council updates, and building space for the agency and day care center. May Well Baby Clinic activity and driver education outcomes were reported.
Eight high school juniors from Terry County, Brownfield Brownfield High School Union High School Meadow High School, will attend the 1971 Texas American Legion Boys State in Austin. Delegates leave June 5 by chartered bus, join 840 juniors on the UT campus for registration and city formation, with a Governor’s Ball set for June 11 and return June 12.
General Telephone Company of the Southwest and the Communications Workers of America resumed talks after a May 27 recess to review data. Negotiations now shift to June 1 after Memorial Day weekend with discussions centered on wage proposals, benefits, schedules, and employee statistics.
Dr. Bob Berry and Dr. Donald Rummel, both from Lubbock, will be at the County eat's office today for plant disease and insect damage consultations. Jim Foy, county agent, says they will be available all day. residents should bring damaged specimens and call to set site visits for trees or shrubs.
Rev. Wayne Sharp, a Texas native and pastor of Northside Baptist Church, says Brownfield residents are very friendly. His family moved to Brownfield in March after a long absence, returning to serve in the Northside Baptist Church.
Brownfield records May moisture above normal with 2.53 inches in two days and a 3.79 inch May total, lifting the year's moisture to 5.46 inches. Officials say May rains allow widespread dryland cotton planting, though totals varied across the county with some fields dry while neighbors saw five inches. Normal May rainfall is 2.50 inches.
