Rain Favors County Cropland with Varying Rainfall Totals

Rainfall in Terry County varied widely on Tuesday morning with 3.9 inches at Pool Gin in the northwest, 3.6 at Johnson Gin, and 3.7 on Paul Robnett’s land as farmers hoped moisture would sustain crops. Other areas reported lighter totals while some wells were being refilled and drought concerns persisted. Tongues of rain stretched from Brownfield to Tokio Gin, with observers noting 1.5 to 2.0 inches elsewhere and calling Tuesday’s rainstorm a “million dollar rainfall.”

Doctors and Board Mull Over Brownfield Hospital Problems

Second Quarter Reports Show Healthy Increase

Brownfield banks post strong second quarter growth with 1981 totals at 102.6 million from 86.6 million in 1980. Loans rose by 7.0 million, deposits by 13.7 million, and assets by 16 million. First National Bank deposits reach 40.0 million, loans 19.5 million, assets 44.3 million. Brownfield State Bank deposits 51.1 million, loans 33.0 million, assets 58.2 million.

Brownfield Receives Sales Tax Rebates Increase

Brownfield reports a 16.32 percent rise in one cent sales tax rebates for January through July 1981, totaling 202,734 dollars versus 174,294 dollars in the same period 1980. July rebates were 15,740 dollars this year and 11,949 dollars last year. Denver City figures for July 1980 and 1981 are noted.
